On 28th March 2019, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was confirmed as the Manchester United manager on the back of an impressive 14 victories from 19 matches since being appointed on an interim basis. After his appointment on a permanent basis, Manchester United started dropping points which raised eyebrows from many quarters of the Manchester United faithful on whether he was given the job too early.

Heading to the summer transfer of 2019 Ole Gunnar Solskjaer promised a rebuild that he said cannot be done within one summer of transfer activity. Today look at the rebuild and tell you reasons why his transfer activities can inspire hope for the future of Manchester United playing unit.

Compared to his predecessors Ole Gunnar has managed to bring in players with the right mentality and this has been reflected in their performances on the pitch as each of his signings have hit on the front foot at the Red Devils side. Harry Maguire(now Manchester United Skipper) and Aaron Wan Bissaka were brought in to help tighten up what was a leaking defense and do away with Smalling(now at AS Roma on loan) and Phil Jones who now is stuck on the sidelines.

Even though looking at this season (2019-2020) which stands temporarily suspended due to coronavirus, Manchester United has still leaked a lot of goals but that cannot rule out the performances of Harry Maguire and Wan Bissaka who have both shone for the side with impressive performances. Ole Gunnar also brought in Daniel James from the Championship side to try and reinforce on the troublesome right-wing position and looking at his return of 6 goals and 7 assists from the player from the Championship is not a bad return.

Bruno Fernandes was brought in the January transfer window and has been a source of transformation for Manchester United who are now on an unbeaten streak since he joined from Sporting Lisbon. Bruno Fernandes has helped in the creativity area of the playing unit in the final third where previously Manchester United was unable to break teams that sat deep in defense.

Since the arrival of the Portuguese playmaker Manchester United have now turned to real champions league place contender for next season. Manchester United fans am sure they are eagerly waiting for the premier league to resume so as to to see their new signing continue pulling the strings in the final third.

Odion Ighalo was brought in on a loan term basis and has been a revelation even though doubts were raised when he was brought in but he has done a better job with a return of 4 goals in 8 starts for the red devils. Ole Gunnar has also seen the rediscovering of Fred’s form in the midfield after a run of games due to Paul Pogba’s troublesome ankle injury. Fred has seen impressive performance especially in the games against Liverpool both legs where he covered every inch of the grass in the 9o minutes of both games.

Looking at the signings we see that Ole Gunnar if given backing and funds he is capable of bringing in the right players and turning Manchester United into a title contender for the season 2020-2021. Many Manchester United fans are now hoping they can see a midfield partnership of Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba which on paper seems to be an exciting partnership in the future.

Right now I strongly believe Manchester are three or four players away from challenging for the premier league, they need a defender and two midfielders( one holding midfielder to shield the defense and attacking midfielder), a proven striker who can guarantee 20+ goals a season and a right-winger who can open up the defence. Ole Gunnar has done a brilliant job in his one year in terms of recruitment which will benefit Manchester United in the long run.
